A Journal of my trip to Dallas, Texas!
Cast of characters:
David Flapan, world traveller, myself.
Jack Potashnik, my dad's mom's sister's son. He has lived in Dallas
for 5 years.
Jill Andres, Jack's girlfriend of 2 years.
Thur, 12-28
My good friend Rachel was sweet enough to drive me to the Blue Line, where
I caught the train to O'Hare. My flight to St. Louis was delayed, and
due to my need for a connection, they put me on a later, direct flight.
Arrived in Dallas at 12:20ish. Jack met me at the baggage claim. We
claimed, and drove back to his house.
He lives in the city, on Northwest Highway. His house is relatively
large, and includes DSL!

After we got up around 9, we left at 10 and had breakfast at Mom's
Cafe. Had pancakes, bacon, eggs, and the southern specialty, biscuits and
gravy. Meal was decent.
We then went to Jill's house, where we met, and we took her 14-year-old
son, Ben. We went to the airport to pick up my rental car. As this was
Jack's first foray into the Dallas car-rental industry, it was quite a
challenge to find. But we did, and I picked up my green Dodge Neon.
We then went back to the house to drop off Jack's car.
We went for barbecue at Peggy Sue's Barbecue. As a barbecue
conniseur, and with Texas having a reputation as a bbq specialty state, i
was eager to see what they had to offer. However, the sauce at Peggy
Sue's was unspectacular. I did not dislike it, but there wasn't much
exciting about it either.
We then dropped Ben off at home, and cruised downtown. We checked out the
Dallas Museum of Art. There were 2 featured exhibitions, both of which we
saw.
- 1- TV Trays: Dishes thru the century.
A very exciting exhibit depicting a virtual history of the kitchen
of the last century.
- 2- Mexican Art: Exhibit featured work from Diego Rivera, Frida
Kahlo, and other Mexican artists.
- 3- We finally saw the regular collection. All very different and
exciting.
After driving around downtown a bit, and listening to Jack explain, we
went back home. There I napped, showered, and changed for the evening.
We went to Cafe Izmir, a Mediterranean Tapas restaurant. They had
delicious food. Jack actually knew the owners from way back. They told
me about their club, and even gave me free passes. So I drove over to
Casbah. Small place, but good latin muic.
Conclusion coming by Wednesday!
